Fordite Earrings
Fordite Earrings
“Fordite”, or “Detroit agate”, is paint overspray from car manufacturing, which builds up on equipment over time, repeatedly being heated/sprayed, creating a durable, enamel appearance, with lots of variation in color and patterning (I'm all about the color!).
I was told by a friend whose father worked for Ford that back in the 70s, this was called "lineman's stone" and the assembly line workers would polish it to create jewelry for their friends while on furlough from the factories. She coveted it , but because her father was executive, she wasn't allowed to have any. What a change! Now this is vibrant material is seen as collectible.
These earrings are made of sterling and fine silver and are approximately 1 1/2” long, with an additional 1/2” added with the sterling silver wires. They are light and swingy, very comfortable to wear. I include a set of silicone ear nuts with each pair on request, although I've not needed them to keep them in place.
They will arrive gift boxed.
